Steps will be taken to reactivate deregistered and defunct cooperative societies to bring the number of cooperatives to a reasonable level. Besides identifying a specific number of societies in the upazila, initiatives will be implemented to transform them into production-oriented societies. Facilitating citizen services of district cooperative office through innovative initiatives and creating cooperative entrepreneurs and facilitating self-employment by providing trade-based training and technical assistance is also one of the goals. Branding and marketing of cooperative products will be supported with the aim of increasing domestic production through cooperatives and delivering the products directly to the consumers at affordable prices. Besides, project/programme proposals will be sent to Directorate of Cooperatives for taking up projects/programmes for the creation of direct and alternative employment, reduction of social and financial disparity and improvement and empowerment of ethnic groups, underprivileged and backward communities and women through cooperatives. In order to develop the socio-economic development of cooperatives and service providers according to specific targets in the next 5 years, an annual work-execution agreement has been made with the upazila starting from the departmental level. Efforts to achieve the goals of this agreement are ongoing. All activities announced by the government will be actively participated.
